Chocolate Music Sessions!
1st Sunday of the Month
Jaz & Jul’s Chocolate House
1 Chapel Market, Islington
We are very pleased to announce our new monthly unplugged night featuring the finest folk, roots and acoustic music in the intimate basement area of Jaz & Jul’s Chocolate House.
Sunday 1st April – Kirsty Merryn and Allison Sleator
For our first night we are pleased that the headline artist will be Kirsty Merryn – Kirsty has recently performed at venues such as The Union Chapel supporting Show of Hands and headlined her own night at Cecil Sharp House so we expect few if any tickets to be available on the night.
Kirsty Merryn is a London-based singer-songwriter whose music is heavily anchored in the folk tradition, with influence from contemporary folk artists like Cara Dillon, Seth Lakeman and Kate Rusby, as well as genre-defying musicians like Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush. Kirsty has become a regular on the UK folk scene, delighting the crowds with her delicately introspective piano based songs and sophisticated musical style, which are balanced beautifully by an intimate and finely observational lyrical content.
Allison Sleator is a contemporary and folk singer. She has performed and collaborated with legendary figures such as Ireland’s well-known producer, composer and renowned bouzouki player, Donal Lunny, founder of historic bands such as Moving Hearts, Planxty and The Bothy Band, singer songwriter Declan O’Rourke and world renowned Irish band The Chieftains, among others.
She has spent the last three years exploring South American Folklore and music and currently blends sounds of modern songwriting, traditional folk and Peruvian magic into her set.
